Infectious Diseases Across Scales
Training Program 

Mission

The IDASTP (Infectious Disease Across Scales Training Program) is an NIH T32 training program funded by the NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) since 2019. 
 
This training program supports pre-doctoral students in the area of infectious disease across scale research. 
 
The objective of the IDASTP is to train competitive scientists who use interdisciplinary cross-scale approaches to better study and control infectious disease.

Programming and Support

IDASTP provides training in infectious disease across scales research and control for graduate students in the Immunology and Molecular Pathogenesis (IMP), Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (MMG), Population Biology, Ecology and Evolution (PBEE), Biostatistics (BIOS), Epidemiology (EPI), and Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) programs at Emory University. Being a trainee in the program comes with stipend support, tuition, research, and travel funding for six trainees each year. In addition, the program provides research and travel support for program affiliates through the Award of Distinction. Program activities, such as the Spring seminar series, the Fall career development seminar, and the annual retreat, are open to all.

IDASTP has one application cycle per year. Click the “More Inforrmation Button” below for submission requirements. The 2026 application cycle dates are:  

Submission Deadline:  April 1, 2026 (by midnight ET) 
Award Notification:    May 2026
Funding Begins:         September 2026

Leadership

Steering Committee

IDASTP is led by the IDASTP Steering Committee representing the Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the Rollins School of Public Health, and the School of Medicine. 

Training Faculty

Training Faculty are recruited from various departments on campus to ensure IDASTP includes a broad spectrum of infectious disease research training expertise.

Trainees

Each academic year, IDASTP supports six Trainees.

IDASTP Affiliates

The IDASTP Award of Distinction was created to support research by additional students, including those who are US citizens or permanent residents. Student support includes funds for research supplies and travel.

This weekly series of seminars and discussions on infectious disease research and control across scales is presented by visiting Emory speakers, Emory faculty/postdocs and IDASTP students. Seminar and discussion topics are chosen to provide a broad overview of the current status of the field.

This weekly series continues discussions on infectious disease research and control across scales theme with a focus on career development. As part of the series, students in the program present their research to their peers.
